28.04.24 - Nach unseren unvergesslichen Kletterabenteuern im Jacob's Canyon, sind wir noch kein Bisschen müde. Zuerst gönnen wir uns in einer wunderschönen Taverne in Monolithos ein schmackhaftes Abendessen und ein Gläslein einheimischen Wein. Diese Taverne (Greek House) ist sowieso sehr besuchenswert, auch mit dem kleinen Laden für einheimische Produkte. Wir sind die einzigen Gäste und so hat der Inhaber viel Zeit um uns seine Produkte zu zeigen. Sehr sympathisch.
Dann geht es die Holperstrasse hinunter zum Strand von Fourni. Der Wind ist stark und der Wellengang entsprechend hoch. Am ersten, kleinen Strand wurde viel Seegras angespült und hat die Brandung wunderbare, natürliche Steinmosaike gelegt. Das ist wirklich eine Augenweide. Auch am Hauptstrand tosen die Wellen und wir wandern kurz auf die felsige Halbinsel. Dort vorne auf dem Archipel will uns der Sturm jedoch beinahe umwehen, sodass wir nicht lange ausharren können. Die Ägäis ist einfach immer wieder auf's Neue beeindruckend.
Ein Wenig später machen wir es uns dann unter den schützenden, tiefen Nadelbäumen gemütlich, wo es etwas windstiller ist. Hier fotografieren wir noch neue Kleider von Carmen, welche Sandra geschneidert hat und waren auf das Abendrot. Die Farben werden immer glühender, während die Brandung unter uns unablässig tobt. Schon im Jahr 2015 waren wir an dieser Stelle und diesmal ist es wieder genau gleich schön. Bevor die Sonne untergeht, beginnen die Felswände rot zu glühen und können wir mit langen Belichtungszeiten die Wellen schön verschwimmen lassen.
In der Abenddämmerung geht es dann wieder quer über die Insel zurück zu unserer gemütlichen Ferienwohnung in Kiotari. Was für ein aufregender Ferientag mit der Jacob's Schlucht und an der Küste von Fourni.

After our unforgettable climbing adventures in Jacob's Canyon, we are still not a bit tired. First we treat ourselves to a tasty dinner and a glass of local wine in a wonderful taverna in Monolithos. This taverna (Greek House) is well worth a visit anyway, even with its small store selling local produce. We are the only guests and so the owner has plenty of time to show us his products. Very friendly.
Then we head down the bumpy road to Fourni beach. The wind is strong and the swell is correspondingly high. A lot of seaweed has washed up on the first, small beach and the surf has created wonderful, natural stone mosaics. It really is a feast for the eyes. The waves are also roaring on the main beach and we take a short walk onto the rocky peninsula. At the front of the archipelago, however, the storm almost wants to blow us over, so we can't hold out for long. The Aegean simply never ceases to amaze.
A little later, we make ourselves comfortable under the sheltering, deep conifers, where it is a little quieter. Here we took photos of Carmen's new dresses, which Sandra had tailored, and waited for the sunset. The colors become more and more glowing, while the surf rages incessantly below us. We had already been to this spot in 2015 and this time it was just as beautiful. Before the sun sets, the rock faces start to glow red and we can take long exposures to blur the waves beautifully.
At dusk, we head back across the island to our cozy vacation apartment in Kiotari. What an exciting day's vacation with Jacob's Gorge and the coast of Fourni.
